If you're under 19 years of age as of the 1st September 2016 and enjoy composing brass band music, then the annual Nock Deighton Challenge for young composers continues to offer a valuable shop window to display your talents.
World Heritage site
The Nock Deighton Challenge is part of Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival — a fantastic free festival featuring 20 brass bands which takes place at the famous world heritage site Ironbridge Gorge Museum on the weekend of 9th and 10th July.
Short work
Composers need to write a short work of between two and a half and four minutes in duration with the winner picking up a prize of £150 and The Eric Peagam Memorial Trophy. There are cash prizes for second and third place, too.
Great things
Graham Taylor, Managing Director of Nock Deighton Estate Agents told 4BR: "The Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival is one of the leading events of its kind in the UK, and we are delighted to be associated with it.
The Nock Deighton Challenge for Young Composers has grown into a prestigious contest over the past three years and previous winners have gone on to great things such as last year's winner Daniel Hall (above), who has been selected to join the composition team at the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain."
