This coming Easter Sunday (27th March), the aedelfrith : brass quintet will be going back in time to perform as Tudor court musicians at the historic Hampton Court Palace.
The ensemble will perform at the Chapel Royal at the former residence of King Henry VIII as part of the special Easter morning service (11.00am) and then again with a special lunchtime recital at 1.00pm.
Music
The programme of music has been chosen to link to the rich heritage of the site, and will include works by the former chapel organists Thomas Tallis, William Byrd and Thomas Morley. Also to be performed is a suite of court music attributed to Henry VIII himself.
Exciting venture
Ensemble leader Nick Walkley told 4BR: "The focus of the group's repertoire has always been towards the heritage of British music, and its links across Northern Europe in particular. To take a programme like this to such a historic place is an exciting venture that gives me great satisfaction as a professional musician.
I adore this music and to perform it in the very place the composers once worked will be very special."

Tribute
Also included will be the ensemble's own small tribute to Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who died last week aged 81. The group shall include a transcription he made of a voluntary by Thomas Tallis, made originally for the Empire Brass Quintet in 1982.
The aedelfrith: brass quintet gratefully acknowledge the support of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. The recital is performed with the permission of HM Chapel Royal.
