New generation of judges make their mark at Bradford

The latest group of youth adjudicators certainly enjoyed their experience at the Yorkshire Regional Championships.

Young judges

Under the guidance of Association of Brass Band Adjudicator's secretary David Hirst, four talented young musicians recently took their first steps on the road to becoming future judges at brass band contests.

Youth Panel

Felicity Hindmarsh, Gregor Spence, Harry Lewis and Edwin Farrar (above) volunteered to take part in the joint 'Youth Adjudication Panel' initiative which has been run with the support of the Yorkshire Regional Committee over the last few years.

On this occasion they were also lucky to gain invaluable guidance and tips from the official adjudicators for the Third Section contest — Dr Robert Childs and Michael Dodd, who provided a unique insight into the working of the adjudication process and followed it up with a brief discussion at the completion of the contest to review their results.

It is so important that we engage with the next generation of the brass band movement so that they can play an increasingly important role in defining and leading our futureABBA Secretary, David Hirst

Thanks

David Hirst told 4BR: "Our thanks once again go to Peggy Tomlinson and to the Yorkshire Committee who supported this initiative — and especially to Dr Robert Childs and Michael Dodd who gave up their time to encourage, support and inspire four very keen young judges.

It is so important that we engage with the next generation of the brass band movement so that they can play an increasingly important role in defining and leading our future. Felicity, Gregor, Harry and Edwin certainly have very bright musical careers ahead of them."
