James boys settle in at Tredegar

Tredegar welcome new signings David and Alyn James ahead of busy season.

James boys

Tredegar Band has welcomed two new signings as they start rehearsal work ahead of what promises to be a very busy 2016 season.

Musical outlook

Alyn James and David James joined the Welsh outfit from Tongwynlais Temperance and told 4BR that they are looking forward to playing with a band that attracted them with their diverse musical outlook.

"That was something that really appealed to us,"Alyn said. "Tredegar's reputation for inventiveness and undertaking interesting musical projects is well known and we both wanted to be part of that."

Return

The move sees a long awaited return to Tredegar for Alyn, who played solo horn with the band in the early 1980s. "It's taken a while to come back, but there are still some familiar faces here, even if our hairstyles have changed quite a bit!"

Alyn's son David is also looking forward to a new musical challenge. "The move comes at just the right time for me — and to work with Ian Porthouse and the band is something I'm really looking forward too."

David and Alyn are players I have admired for considerable time having heard them play with distinction with Tongwynlais. Their signing has given us a great boost ahead of what will be a very busy and interesting yearIan Porthouse
