The Forest of Dean Festival of Brass was held in Lydney recently where a number of training bands took part in an excellent event that replaced the cancelled GBBA Entertainment Contest.
Support
Organised by Kevin and Kerry Ford of Lydney Training Band, the event was also supported by the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association.
Ensembles from Lydney Training and Starter Bands, Lydbrook Training, City of Bristol Learners and West Mercia Police Youth, took part on the day which saw the experienced conductor and adjudicator Nigel Seaman mentor each with expert advice after each had performed.
Exactly what required
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Nigel had a super approach and was exactly what was required — a friendly face who imparted some very sound advice for the players and conductors alike. It all assisted to the relaxed but enjoyable day of music that we were after."
The large, supportive audience were treated to a variety of music in a number of styles to keep them thoroughly entertained, and there was plenty of great playing on show — especially from the talented young soloists that were featured.
All that and the sum of £300 was raised for a children's cancer charity — CLIC Sargent.

Marvellous time
Nigel Seaman told 4BR: "I had a marvellous time and I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. There was a lovely atmosphere in the hall and a smashing, relaxed feeling to the whole day.
I hope there will be a second festival in the future. The exercise needs to be repeated that's for certain."
