4BR has been informed that the highly respected Reg Vardy solo euphonium player Paul Robinson has decided to step down from his leading role with the North of England and Dr Martin champion.
Paul has held the position for 15 years, in which time he has become recognised by his peers as one of the most consistent performers at the elite level of banding.
Right time
However, he now feels that the time is right to support Andrew Hedley (together above) who swaps seats with him, so that he can also increase his teaching and mentoring at Durham University.
The Geneva Instruments Performance Artist has spent 32 years in the solo euphonium seat — first at the former British Steel Teesside Band and then with Reg Vardy, gaining numerous solo awards along the way.
Commitment
Reg Vardy Band Manager Graeme Tindall told 4BR: "Paul's commitment and dedication to Reg Vardy has been fantastic and his decision to step down and assist such a fabulous young player as Andrew demonstrates this.
We are delighted that he will now continue to pass on his vast experience to a player who has one of the brightest futures in the movement."

Honour
Andrew himself added: "I remember as a young lad I walked through the doors of British Steel Teesside Band and heard Paul play: Ever since he's been phenomenal.
It's an honour to take over from him but an even greater pleasure to be able to continue to play next to him."
