Musician Ailsa Russell returned back to work with The Band of The Prince of Wales's Division Brass Band in St Athan after enjoying a very special weekend of musical leave.
Ailsa (above) played solo horn with Cory Band as they claimed the National title at the Royal Albert Hall in what was a memorable victory for the Welsh band.
Back to duties
However, first thing on Monday morning Ailsa reported for her usual Army duties — although she was welcomed back with plenty of congratulations from her fellow musicians.
Director of Music, Capt P A Collis-Smith told 4BR: "Everyone associated with the Corps of Army Music and with The Prince of Wales's Division Brass Band is very proud of Ailsa's achievement with Cory Band.
It goes to show that talented players can enjoy the best of both the Army and civilian musical worlds and follow their passion at the very highest level when choosing an exciting carer with us."
Graduate
Ailsa decided to join the Corps of Army Music after graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.
Since joining the Prince of Wales Band in July this year she has settled into a routine of practice, rehearsals, physical training, tuition at the Royal Welsh College and army engagements, whilst still being able to maintain her commitment to Cory in her own time.
Relish
Capt Collis Smith added: "As a result she is one of the busiest players in the band but recognises and relishes the opportunity.
Ailsa has quickly established herself as a fine soloist and it is evident that she has an exciting career ahead of her, both in the Army and with Cory.
It is expected that Ailsa will be fully involved in recruiting for the Corps from early next year and will be released from her day duties to visit colleges, bands and music services in the coming months."
Loving it
Meanwhile, Ailsa told 4BR: "I'm absolutely loving playing with Cory and being able to pursue a fantastic career as a full time professional tenor horn player.
The opportunities a career in the Corps of Army Music and with The Prince of Wales's Division Brass Band have been amazing — and so has their support."
