Brass enthusiasts in Singapore were recently treated to a free euphonium concert at the Bishan Salvation Army concert hall thanks to British euphonium star Mark Glover.
Third time
This was the third time such a concert has taken place and featured Mark as a soloist alongside the talents of his many students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
The event also gave some local high school students the chance to take part alongside guest performers, RNCM student Vincent Tan and Dan Morgan, the principal euphonium of the Marsden and National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Dan is completing a university exchange programme in Singapore and jumped at the opportunity to get involved.
More and more interested
Mark told 4BR: "Young brass players from the South East Asian region are becoming more and more interested in British brass bands, and with students now moving to the UK to study music it can only spell good things for the potential future development and formation of brass bands in the region."
The concert also featured classic euphonium solos from the pens of composers James McLeod, Peter Meechan, Wesley Kendrick and Singaporean composer Jinjun Lee. All the featured soloists were expertly accompanied by pianist Aya Sakou.
I was very proud to be able to offer young musicians the opportunity to perform as soloists as well as alongside more experienced playersMark Glover
Very proud
Mark added: "I was very proud to be able to offer young musicians the opportunity to perform as soloists as well as alongside more experienced players.
The concert raised money for the Salvation Army in Singapore and would not have been possible without the support of Major Paul Herring and the local company MUSIC360."
