The death has been announced of the highly respected south Wales bandsman Peter Davies. He was aged 75.
He passed away peacefully at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend, last Friday morning after a long and brave fight with cancer.
Life long passion
Peter enjoyed a life-long passion and involvement in banding starting his career with Bridgend Town Band.
He played for well over 50 years — on euphonium and trombone with Ogmore Valley, Mid-Rhondda and Parc & Dare Bands.
Player and conductor
Later he took up the baton and became a successful conductor of community bands. He was instrumental in the early days of the resurgence of the Melingriffith Band, and also in conducting and motivating the Tata Steel (Port Talbot) Band when they were in a process of rebuilding.
His final conducting post was with Pencoed Silver Band, who he led up to 2013 when failing health forced his retirement.
