The Cory Band has announced that they will give the world premiere of a brand new concert work by composer Ed de Boer, written as Alexander Comitas, at a forthcoming joint event with current First Sectional National Champion, Filton Concert Brass.
Entitled, 'Festive Dance from Mindia' the composition has been developed as part of a bigger idea inspired by a poetic tale and the folk music of Georgia.
The Snake Eater
De Boer, who wrote the popular European Championship and British Open set work, 'Vita Aeterna Variations' told 4BR: "During the summer holidays of 2013, while in Georgia for the first time, I chanced upon a number of poems of Vazha Pshavela.
I felt immediately attracted to a poem called 'The Snake Eater', written in 1901, about the tragic fate of its hero Mindia, in the Northern mountainous region of Khevsureti.
I also started investigating and transcribing Khevsur folk music, which I found to possess the same stark beauty as Pshavela's poem."
Exciting project
Funded as part of a wider project by Arts Council England, it is a work that has certainly excited Cory MD, Philip Harper.
"The music is a real showpiece which should impressively demonstrate the capabilities of a top flight brass band,"he said. "We're also looking forward to sharing the stage with Filton and together this project has given us a great opportunity to work together.
Ed de Boer has composed what has turned out to be a series of exciting pieces, the first of which we will world premiere in Bristol."

Delighted
Meanwhile, Filton's MD, Tom Davoren told 4BR that he was also delighted to be able to work together with Cory on such an exciting musical project.
"It's great news that Arts Council England is supporting this project. Promoting brand new music for brass band from such an outstanding composer is a fantastic opportunity to be part of."
The event takes place at Bristol Easton Salvation Army, on Thursday 11th June, starting at 8.00pm.
