The Black Dyke Band has issued an official statement in respect to the band's disqualification from the Delph Whit Friday Contest — and now considers the matter to be closed.
The statement reads:
"The Black Dyke Band would like to clarify the events of the Delph Quickstep Contest on Friday May 29th, and the band's subsequent and disappointing disqualification from the contest.
The Black Dyke Band was registered to play as Band 71, and on arrival, it was apparent that they had missed their allocated position, and that the contest had proceeded without their participation.
A discussion was held with the Contest Officials at the booking-in desk, and the band was offered an opportunity to take a later position in the contest as Band 76.
Wishing to respect the rules of the contest, the Music Director offered to withdraw the band, and sought clarification that competing would not cause any problem.
After discussions the officials advised that there was no problem and the band proceeded to play as Band 76, subsequently being awarded First Place by the adjudicator.
The Black Dyke Band understands and accepts the later disqualification decision by the Contest Officials, following two 'complaints' received from other bands on Saturday May 30th, and now considers the matter closed."
