The East Lancashire Concert Band has informed 4BR that their specially commissioned ‘Pals March’ which formed part of the critically acclaimed ‘Accrington Pals’ play by Peter Whelan, will be heard in Australia later this month.
ANZAC Day
The march is to be played by the Community Band of Club Taree in New South Wales, when they help commemorate Anzac Day on 25th April, and is the latest performance of a work that has captured the interest of bands and commemoration societies around the world.
Honoured
Ian McGuinness told 4BR: “We are honoured that The ‘Accrington Pals’ play is being performed by an increasing number of amateur drama groups as part of the Great War Centenary commemorations, with the band now making a recording of the march to be used free of charge to those who wish to use it.”
He added: “The uptake has been excellent and, in response to a number of requests from amateur wind-bands, we have also made the music and score available to them without charge as part of our contribution to the commemorations of WW1 and in particular to the memory of Accrington Pals, with whom we had a unique connection.”
