The National Association of Brass Band Conductors Chairman, Andrew White, has announced that he is to take on a new advisory role within the organisation.
Honour
He told 4BR: “The NABBC Executive Board consists of knowledgeable, educated musicians who support their member’s aspirations often at their own expense. To be their Chairman for the last five years has been a real honour.”
He added: “This new role will allow me to repay those many teachers, conductors and brass musicians who have inspired and supported me during my career. It also allows me to reflect upon the needs of our existing and new conductors, and how the NABBC can best support them.”
Modernisation
Andrew has been at the core of the modernisation process behind the NABBC in recent years, resulting in a new constitution, centralised funding, area representation and a new education strategy.
He also told 4BR that he felt the NABBC had benefitted from improved communication and PR, a modern internet presence and essential partnership links to bands and other organisations.
Great credit
“A great deal of credit should go to Russell Gray who has also led by example. Similarly, the successful bid with Arts Council England provided new conducting opportunities and- the biggest programme of conducting workshops ever delivered by the NABBC.
Another consequence was that the financial status of the organisation was made secure and new strategies will guarantee the existence of this wonderful organisation for many years to come.”
