New faces at Derwent

Derwent Brass has been quick in making sure they have plugged the gaps in their ranks with new signings.

Following the recent departure of long serving players Neil Riddle and Madeline Eley, Derwent Brass has been quick to announce the appointment their new replacements.

Experience and talent

The highly experienced Linda Hobbs takes on the role of principal EEb tuba, whilst the talented Richard Simnor comes in on second baritone.

Linda has played for a number of top flight Midlands bands, including Jaguar Cars, Williams Davis, Kibworth and more recently Virtuosi GUS, whilst Richard has helped the band out previously.

He will also maintain his role as solo baritone with Foresters Brass, sharing his responsibilities across both bands — something that won’t be a problem for the forthcoming Midland’s Area contest as he will be enjoying a holiday break in New Zealand at the time.

Not only are they going to add significant depth and experience around the stands, but they are also proper bandspeople, which is a vital ingredient in our happy, but committed setupMD, Keith Leonard

Warm welcome

Derwent MD, Keith Leonard, told 4BR: “We extend a hugely warm welcome to both these very talented players.

Not only are they going to add significant depth and experience around the stands, but they are also proper bandspeople, which is a vital ingredient in our happy, but committed setup.”

Richard and Linda will make their debuts in the high profile British Sea Power concert in Derby on Saturday evening.
