The critically acclaimed film, ‘Pride’, which recalls the real troubles and comic misunderstandings of the friendship and support that emerges between a small Welsh community and the founders of the London based Gay and Lesbian Support group at the height of the 1984 Miners Strike, has won three prizes at the prestigious Moët British Independent Film Awards in London.
Brass band accompaniment
The film, which closed this year’s Cannes Film Festival and which has already recouped nearly £10 million at the box office, features a significant brass band soundtrack, written by composer Chris Nightingale played by Tredegar Band conducted by Ian Porthouse.
It has already been widely tipped to claim yet more awards in the forthcoming BAFTA’s in February 2015 following its ‘Best Film’, ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for Andrew Scott, and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for Imelda Staunton successes at the glittering ceremony sponsored by the famous champagne company.

Great response
Tredegar MD Ian Porthouse told 4BR: “We have had such a great response from the film — even though we only make a fleeting screen appearance in it.
The music, which was superbly scored by Chris Nightingale to include a brass band captures the emotion of story brilliantly — so to play a major part in that has been a great honour. I’m sure the film will gain plenty more awards.”
