Alun F. Williams, the highly respected former Head of Gwent Music Support Services has been appointed as the new Chairman of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales.
Important role
Alun, who has enjoyed a long relationship with the band, has been a member of the NYBBW Advisory Panel for many years is delighted to take on what is set to become an increasingly important role with the flagship brass band organisation.
"It’s a great honour to become the new Chairman. Having very recently heard Wales’s best young brass player’s audition for our 2015 course, the future of the National Youth Brass Band looks very promising and exciting.
With guest conductor Philip Harper on board I know that next year’s course and concerts will be fantastic!"
Future ambitions
He also told 4BR that he is very ambitious about future development of the NYBBW.
"In recent years the band has been involved in really interesting projects and I hope we can continue to offer ever more imaginative music experiences to our musicians.
I would like to see the band’s profile continue to grow as well as it audiences: It would certainly be good for us to perform in front of full houses."
Experience
Alun recently retired from the Head of the Gwent Music Support Service post and is now working on a freelance basis as a music educator, teacher, conductor and adjudicator.
He represented Wales on the National Federation of Music Services, was on the Advisory Board for the National Ensembles of Wales, and also represented the Welsh Music Services on the Advisory Panel of the NYBBW for many years.
He has received many awards for his work in music education and was presented the Worshipful Company of Musicians ‘Mortimer Medal’ at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham in 2005.
