There was a fantastic extravaganza of brass band musical talent on show at the first Brass Factor contest of the season, where Wardle Academy Youth Band scooped the top prize in front of a packed audience at the Engine Shed in Wetherby.
Marathon push
The contest, which is supported by Harrogate based sponsors CNG Ltd, saw the youngsters chased hard to the finishing line by the Huddersfield Marathon Band, who entertained the audience with their part narrative, part musical story of the trials and tribulations of achieving their famous Guinness World Record, whilst local favourites Wetherby Silver Band also delivered a strong well put together programme.
However, there was to be no denying the incredible young players of Wardle with their 20 minute set that featured audience favourites such as John Williams' ‘Olympic Fanfare’
Firm support
The band drew firm support from all of the judges who said the choice of music showed the band were keen to both entertain and demonstrate their key skills.
One well entertained audience member was Wetherby Mayor, Cllr Harry Chapman: “Both the Mayoress and myself were very impressed by the whole evening,” he said. “It was run with great professionalism, and the bands, the musicians and their music just blew us away.
It is a fantastic vehicle for getting brass bands and their music to more people.”

Fantastic talent
Brass Factor founder, Alex Bray added: "It was great to see so many people turn out to support Brass Factor and see the fantastic talent that was on show whilst raising £300 for Martin House Children’s Hospice.
Wardle Academy was a worthy champion, but there were some fantastic performances from all of the bands throughout the night. Well done to all!"
