Thoresby Colliery Band has announced that they have begun a musical collaboration with Andrew Stevenson, with the Foden’s cornet player set to become their first ever Composer-in-Residence.
Currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music he has also held the position of Composer in Residence at Foden’s Youth Band since September 2012.
Delighted
Andrew, who hails from Blyth in North Nottinghamshire, told 4BR that he is delighted to be given the opportunity to work with the Midlands Championship Section band.
"Being from Nottinghamshire, I followed Thoresby closely and had the pleasure of working with the band recently where I found their professionalism and hard-working attitude impressive.
I was initially asked to work with the band on a project for 2015 so this appointment seems like the next step for us. It’s a really exciting time for both parties and I can’t wait to work together."
Impressed
Meanwhile, Band Manager Kieren Williams added: "I’ve followed Andrew’s progress for some years and have been impressed by his compositions and commissions. The next 12 months promise to be significant for the band, with the closure of Thoresby Colliery imminent.
We initially approached Andrew to work with us to mark that occasion and it seemed to be the natural progression to our partnership.
We hope to be able to enhance our reputation for performing contemporary, entertaining music and believe that Andrew’s talents and experience are perfect for us."
