The Ammanford Band has strengthened its ranks ahead of their assault on two National titles in the coming weeks.
Llanelli and Cheltenham
This weekend they head to Llanelli to take part in the brass band contest at the Welsh National Eisteddfod, whilst in a few weeks time they make the slightly longer trip to Cheltenham to represent Wales in the Third Section National Finals.
Hedd-Wyn Jones returns from her university studies to rejoin the back row cornet section, whilst the experienced Alex Salter comes in on second euphonium from Penclawdd Brass.
Youth investment
With trombonist Matthew Berryman moving to join the Eb tuba team, Philip Gethin joins from Ystradgynlais on solo trombone, with talented youngster Rhydian Tiddy making the move up from the Ammanford Junior Band to join on bass trombone.
That investment in youth also sees young Carys Watkins coming in on third cornet, whilst Millie Savage will move from cornet to baritone, continuing her grades and excellent progression.
Rewards
"It’s great for us to reap the rewards of an excellent youth setup," MD Glyn Davies told 4BR.
"As a band we give the opportunity of free tuition to all youngsters wishing to learn a brass instrument, and as the MD, it is great for me to look at the talented young players as the future of Ammanford Band."

Last appearance
The National Eisteddfod will mark the last appearance for Dyfrig Rees, who due to work relocation has to move from the area — although the band hopes that he will make as swift return in the future!
