The Foden’s Band is preparing for its next high profile performance, with the London premiere on Sunday 6th July of their ‘New Music Biennial’ commission, 'A Child Like You' at the Southbank Centre.
Refugee
'A Child Like You' tells the story of a 17 year old Ugandan Asian refugee who, after fleeing Uganda in 1972 to escape the brutal regime of Idi Amin, was taken in by the family of composer Andy Scott.
Inspired by these real life events, Andy Scott's new 15 minute mini-opera explores questions about children who are adopted, fostered or orphaned.
This new work features Anna-Clare Monk (soprano/narrator), Lauren Scott (harp), the full Foden’s Band and four young musicians from Foden’s Youth Band who both play and narrate.
Powerful work
A spokesperson for the event told 4BR: “With the sensitive subject matter and Andy Scott's distinctive compositional voice, this is a powerful and moving work.”
