Friends and colleagues, as well as numerous brass band and choral musicians and organisations, joined the family of the late Robert Mulholland (above left) this week to say farewell and celebrate the life and work of a fine man at the Methodist Church in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
Reflective mood
The congregation was in reflective mood as the coffin was brought into the church to the sound of the 'Beaufighters March', played by current and former players of the Fairey Band directed by Garry Cutt — an organisation which throughout his life retained a strong emotional tie to the founder of Brass Band World magazine.
Warmth and affection
The service was led by Reverend's Bill Bentham & Foday Kamara, with the splendidly sung hymns 'Praise My Soul' and 'Thine Be the Glory' separated by prayers and scripture readings, whilst Brian Taylor, a favourite player of Bob Mulholland, delivered a wonderful solo performance of 'Sunshine of your Smile'.
The warmly affectionate eulogies, recalling numerous stories over his life, were given by his lifelong friend Alan Jenkins (above right) and Bob’s two sons.
Referring to him as 'a quite remarkable man', Alan fondly remembered how he first met Bob and how their friendship grew, recalling numerous anecdotes and episodes when his quick witted humour and generosity of spirit came to the fore.
Death or Glory
Following 'You Raise Me Up' from former members of the Kinder Choir, prayers and the hymn, 'Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer', the Chapel-en-le-Frith Male Voice Choir sung 'Llanfair' and 'Morte Criste' accompanied by band and organ.

Applause
After further prayers, the congregation stood and applauded as the coffin was taken out of the church to the sounds of the march, 'Death or Glory'.
In addition to the order of service, the family shared many more of the highlights of Bob's busy and fulfilling life with a lovingly produced chronicle in words and pictures.
Robert Mulholland leaves a widow, Jennifer, four children and eleven grand children.
