Redbridge Brass has announced that Alan Duguid has accepted the band’s invitation to become their new Musical Director.

Area debut

The Regent Brass MD will take up his new role at the start of 2014 and will make his conducting debut after the Butlins Mineworkers Championship by leading the band at the London & Southern Counties Area contest at Stevenage.

The MD graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama after studying composition with Dr Gordon McPherson and Rory Boyle and conducting with Alasdair Mitchell.

Area champions

In 2001, he won the Scottish heat of the NABBC Conductor Competition, going on to represent Scotland at the NABBC finals in 2003. More recently, he reached the quarter final of the 2011 European Conductor Competition in Montreux and led Regent Brass to the London & Southern Counties area title in 2013.

Real professionalism

Alan told 4BR: "Although sad to be bringing my long association with Regent Brass to an end after seven and half wonderful years, I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work with Redbridge Brass.

To me, the band has a real professionalism and high level of musicianship which makes it a very exciting prospect for any conductor. I look forward to making some great music with them going forward."

2014 promises to be an exciting year for the band and we very much look forward to starting work with AlanRedbridge Brass

Thanks

Meanwhile, a band spokesperson added: "We are fortunate that Jeremy Wise will take us at the Butlins Mineworkers Championship following his decision to step back due to work commitments.

We are grateful to Jeremy for all his hard work and look forward to seeing him in his role of Principal Guest Conductor. 2014 promises to be an exciting year for the band and we very much look forward to starting work with Alan."
