Following hot on the heels of the major competition successes of Rhondda Cynon Taf based National Champions Cory and Tylorstown, there has been further good news for the future of Rhondda Valley banding with the news that the Treherbert Junior Band can now boast no less than 24 new recruits.
Academy Scheme
Part of the innovative Cory Academy scheme, the children were recruited following demonstrations in local schools by members of the National champions.
The youngsters will now receive weekly tuition from soprano star Steve Stewart, together with additional support from Treherbert Band members. They will also come together with young musicians from other Rhondda Cynon Taf bands through a series of weekend courses with additional Cory tutors.
Young brass
Speaking on behalf of Treherbert Band, Craig Roberts told 4BR: "It's great to see so many new young brass players so enthused and to see the bandroom full once again. The Cory Academy is a great initiative and it’s great to see bands collaborating with each other to foster the future of the movement in the local area."
