The set works to be used at the famous West of England Bandsman’s Contest in Bugle for 2014 have been announced.
Seminal work
Following the critical acclaim received for his recent National set work, ‘Of Distant Memories’, Edward Gregson’s seminal 1977 test piece, ‘Connotations’ will be used in the top section.
Gilbert Vinter’s equally iconic ‘Spectrum’ will be the test for the First Section with Simon Dobson’s evocative ‘Penlee’ the choice for the Second.
The three movement ‘St Austell Suite’ by Kenneth Downie is the Third Section test, with Malcolm Arnold’s perennially popular ‘Little Suite No 1’ in the Fourth.
As usual, the Youth and Training Sections have the opportunity to choose their own music to demonstrate their abilities to the best effect.
