Entries are now being welcomed for the 9th annual Skelmanthorpe Slow Melody & Ensemble Contest which will be held at Pilling Lane Methodist Church, Skelmanthorpe, on Saturday 9th November, commencing at 10.30am.
Format
The competition follows its usual format with junior, senior and ensemble classes, and this year the adjudicator will be Foden’s euphonium star Glyn Williams.
Warm welcome
Organisers Graham and Jonny Bates told 4BR: "We always provide a warm welcome to competitors and supporters alike, and the event is enhanced by the great facilities, fantastic food, and the high-profile adjudicators which we are able to attract."
They playfully added: "Our only concern is the ‘Random Section’, where we traditionally get the adjudicator to play one of the unusual instruments available at the end of the day.
Recent years have seen Alan Morrison performing ‘The Acrobat’ on trombone and Richard Marshall playing on a piece of garden hose. However, we have been told Glyn can actually play the kitchen sink, so we will have to give this one some serious thought!"
