New MD at Blaenavon

James Jones becomes the new MD at Blaenavon.

Blaenavon Town Band

Blaenavon Town Band has announced the appointment of Musical Director James Jones.

High profile

James previously led the Rogerstone Band to success, gaining promotion from the Second to the Championship Section — with the appointment coming as they prepare to share the stage in a high profile concert with ‘Only Boys Aloud’ in November.

Although the band will not take part in the forthcoming Welsh League contest in Burry Port, the partnership will make their Welsh contest debut at the final League event later in the year in their home town.

Debut success

The appointment follows the successful debut at the Wychavon Entertainment contest where the band came runner-up in the Second Section.

James told 4BR: "I’m delighted to accept the role of MD with Blaenavon. In the very short time I have been with the band, I’ve realised just how important this band is to the community.

I’ve been amazed by the professionalism and ambition of the committee and this positive mentality certainly passes through the band."

The band has worked well with James over the last few months which resulted in our recent success at Wychavon. We are looking forward to building on this and continuing our strong link within the local communityBlaenavon Band

Building for future

Principal cornet player Lucinda Gough added: "The band has worked well with James over the last few months which resulted in our recent success at Wychavon. We are looking forward to building on this and continuing our strong link within the local community."
