Norwegian Trumpet star Tine Thing Helseth, has made a brace of appearances on the BBC ahead her debut performance at the Proms on Sunday evening.
There, Helseth will be joined by fellow trumpeter Marco Blaauw in Proms 48 as the featured soloists in the London premiere of Matthias Pintscher’s ‘Chute d’étoiles’ with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
Homage
The work is an explosive musical homage to the 2007 installation work of weight and movement conjuring a shower of falling stars by German artist Anselm Kiefer’s 2007 installation in the Grand Palais, Paris.
Presenter Katie Derham interviewed Tine on the BBC ‘Proms Extra’ programme at the Royal College of Music, where she was interviewed alongside the wonderful Laura Mvula who performed at the recent Urban Classic Prom and vocal coach Mary King.
Engaging
The intellectually engaging 40 minute programme saw Tine talk about her musical influences – from her love of Bach to choral singing as well as discuss other musical matters with the guests.

Contrast
In stark contrast, she earlier stoically endured the banality of BBC breakfast television presenters Louise Minchin and Charlie Stayt – who asked questions of such startlingly vacuity that Helseth deserved a medal, let alone a Proms debut for her efforts.
You were reminded of Charlie Brooker’s caustic remark that such is the dumbing down of breakfast television presenting that the future death of Her Majesty the Queen will be brought to us by Lizo Mzimba in 60 seconds of entertainment news....
