4BR has been informed that Dr Robert Childs has decided to relinquish his position as Associate Music Director at newly crowned English National Champion, Black Dyke.

Enjoyed

It is understood that the conductor has cited a variety of reasons for his departure, but emphasised how much he had enjoyed working with the Queensbury band and everyone associated with it during his short tenure.

Final appearance

Commenting on his resignation Dr Childs said: "I’m in no rush to leave and I’m looking forward to assisting Nick in the preparation for the British Open.

My final appearance with Black Dyke will be sometime in October which will coincide nicely with the start of the new semester at the Royal Welsh College of Music in Cardiff."

It is always sad when you lose a person of Bob’s calibre, especially when he is also your brother, but everyone at Black Dyke wishes him all the best for the futureDr Nicholas Childs
