The Hebden Bridge March & Hymn contest was blessed with plenty of fine weather and excellent playing recently as ten bands competed for a share of the generous prize pot on offer.

There were many musical highlights for the large and appreciative audience to enjoy on a wonderful afternoon, with the biggest cheer of the day reserved for the fantastic performance of the march ‘Circus Parade’ by the youngsters of Wardle Blast.
Experts
Genre experts Marsden Silver under Glyn Williams once again showed their quality by beating Yorkshire rivals Drighlington and Yorkshire Imperial DUT to claim the £350 first prize and Alan Bottomley Memorial Shield – topping both the march and hymn tune elements for adjudicator Alan Hobbins, off the number 1 draw.
Section awards went to Elland Silver, Golborne and Clifton & Lightcliffe, with Elland Youth under Samantha Harrison taking the Youth honours.
