Double Champions Foden's has announced that they have been awarded funding to commission a new work by the PRS for Music Foundation’s New Music Biennial.
Prestigious
The prestigious scheme will present a series of commissioned works from British composers across the UK in 2014, as Scotland prepares to celebrate the Commonwealth Games.
Organisations were invited to submit ideas for commissions, with Foden’s making a successful application for a new work by Composer in Residence Andy Scott and leading poet Lemn Sissay.
Collaborations
Andy and Lemn have undertaken successful collaborations in the past, including the iconic ‘My Mountain Top’, which has proven to be one of Andy’s most widely acclaimed works.
The new commission will be premiered in the North West in 2014 and will feature in a programme of works by the artists that will also include Foden's, harpist Lauren Scott and soprano Anna-Clare Monk .
Hosts
The New Music Biennial was developed in partnership with Creative Scotland, Arts Council England and the British Council.
The new commissions will be brought together across two weekend festivals hosted by London’s Southbank Centre from 4th – 6th July 2014 and Glasgow UNESCO City of Music from 2nd – 4th August 2014, coinciding with the city’s hosting of the Commonwealth Games.

Delighted
Foden’s Mark Wilkinson told 4BR: "We are delighted to have been awarded funding to manage this project which will raise the profile of Foden's Band and brass banding in general to a new and wider audience.
Foden's is the only brass band to have been awarded this funding and the project will see the band perform in a number of high profile venues as well as working with Lemn Sissay, Anna-Clare Monk and Lauren Scott. We are looking forward to working on the new 15 minute commission with our composer in residence Andy Scott."
