There has been a wonderful response to the 4BR news story concerning the escalating day to day running costs at the Brass Band Archive in Wigan.
Offers
Since the story was published on the weekend, curators Walter Ainscough and Alan Marsh have received messages and telephone calls from all over the banding world with offers of financial help – and even more of items of treasured memorabilia to be placed in their safe care.
Walter told 4BR: "It’s been remarkable – and goes to show that the importance of the Archive reaches all over the banding world. Some of the offers we have had touch your heart. We have had everyone from youngsters to pensioners offer their help and money."
Grateful
He added: "We are so grateful and so determined to carry on our work for the benefit of the banding movement.
The expertise that has also been offered to try and help secure the financial future has also opened our eyes. We can’t thank people enough – and 4BR for helping us publicise what had started to become a real crisis."

In touch
Walter and Alan will get back in touch with everyone who has contacted them, and hope that more people will also get in touch to find out more about the Archive and the work it does in preserving the banding movement’s heritage.
