Despite the Arctic weather around the country, Black Dyke will be offering a warm musical welcome in Cardiff this evening when they take to the stage under the baton of Director of Music Dr Nicholas Childs at St David’s Hall at 7.30pm.
Welcome return
The European champions is making a welcome return to the Welsh capital with the MD telling 4BR that they will be bringing a few new treats with them too.
"It’s always nice to be back home in Wales, where Black Dyke always gets a wonderful welcome," Dr Childs said. "And we’ve brought an exciting programme to keep everyone warm too, including a world premiere, some great classics and our usual array of brilliant soloists."
World premiere
The MD revealed that trombone star Brett Baker will provide the world premiere with his performance of Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s ‘Slipstream’, whilst the traditionalists in the audience will have a treat to look forward to with the overture, ‘The Beautiful Galatea’.
Flugel star Zoe Hancock will be just one of the star soloists on show, when she performs Philip Harper’s evocative, ‘Dreams and Dances’.

Dig the car out
Nicholas Childs added: "Even though the weather hasn’t been great on the way down from Yorkshire – and I had to dig my car out of a drift outside my house, we made sure we left in plenty of time.
Not even a bit of unseasonal snow will keep Black Dyke from doing what it does best – bringing top class musical entertainment to our fans and supporters.”
