Members of the Lanner & District Silver Band are still celebrating following their recent success at the South West Brass Band Association Contest in Torquay.
Euro & Open
A fine performance of John McCabe’s (above) former British Open and European set work, ‘Salamander’ saw the First Section band claim second place and the C J Bedwell Memorial Trophy, just behind Championship Section Camborne in the Open Section of what proved to be a highly competitive contest.
The band also claimed the Jerwood Bowl Trophy as the highest placed First Section band for the third consecutive year.
Great result
Musical Director, Stuart Chappell told 4BR: "We pulled off a great result. Our record over the last 2 or 3 years is now showing real consistency.
We chose ‘Salamander’ as we thought it would develop us all as musicians and we were all delighted to read the comments of adjudicators John Berryman and Paul Holland who described our performance as ‘Excellent’ and ‘Awesome’ in their written remarks."
It isn’t often you see such terms on adjudicators comments but when you do, you know there’s a lot of things you’re doing very wellMD, Stuart Chappell
Very well
Stuart added: "It isn’t often you see such terms on adjudicators comments but when you do, you know there’s a lot of things you’re doing very well."
Band Chairman, Lee Rouse added, "The preparations for this contest have seen us rehearse in four venues, each with very different acoustics.
We are mid-way through the construction of our new headquarters and the experiences has crystallised our views on the acoustics we want to incorporate in the new building. It’s been an incredibly valuable experience for us in that respect and not simply another great contest result."
