Flaming wet for Tredegar

Masters champions help light the Paralympic Flame in a very wet Cardiff Bay.

Tredegar

Masters champions Tredegar, warmed up for the forthcoming British Open Championship in Birmingham by braving the horrendous weather to play their part in the lighting of the 2012 Paralympics Cauldron in front of the iconic Welsh Millennium Centre in Cardiff on Monday evening.

Activate

Despite the weather the occasion attracted vast crowds to see Falkland’s War veteran Simon Weston have the honour of lightening the symbol of the Games in Wales, with the band performing Matt Hall’s ‘Activate’ as the event was beamed live around the world accompanied by a huge fireworks display over Cardiff Bay.

Singers Charlotte Church, X Factor winner Joe McElderry and Welsh choir Only Men Aloud and their teenage counterparts, Only Kids Aloud, provided the musical entertainment for the three hour long event, Charlotte Church stating, “It’s important you can have some arts mixed in with the sport.”

It was a long and very wet day for the band, but we were able to put in plenty of British Open preparation as we waited to perform and the exposure the event gained was great for the bandMD, Ian Porthouse

Exposure

Tredegar MD, Ian Porthouse added: "It was a long and very wet day for the band, but we were able to put in plenty of British Open preparation as we waited to perform and the exposure the event gained was great for the band."
