We had a great response to our latest 4BR quiz, with a cornet player from Wardle Anderson Brass the lucky recipient of a trio of great mutes thanks to the quiz entry of a trombonist!
Answer
The little bit of knowledge you needed to know correctly was that there were 56 Wallace mutes of various shapes and sizes on the Bandmaster website.
Delighted winner
The winner was Sarah Tucker, who plays trombone for Wardle Anderson Brass.
Sarah entered the quiz to try and help her band’s hard pressed cornet section, who will have to use plenty of mutes for their performance of Tom Davoren’s ‘VIVAT!’ at the First Section National Finals in Cheltenham.
Great news
"That’s great news," Sarah told 4BR when we caught up with her recently, before mischievously adding. "I know the trombones have plenty of muted work to do in Tom Davoren’s great test piece, and so have the cornets, so I thought I had better give at least one of the players a helping hand!"
Sarah added: "We are a young band that is always in need of extra help and the Wallace mutes are brilliant. Thanks to Bandmaster I think all the cornet section will be queuing up to have a go of them now."
Extra quality
Bandmaster Director Matthew Ruel told 4BR: "We are delighted that the mutes will be used straight away in the heat of contest battle. They are superb, and we are sure they will give quality to Wardle’s performance."
