A few months ago the huge cosmetics and pharmaceutical company Proctor & Gamble in conjunction with ‘Chat’ Magazine, held a competition to find Britain's ‘Champion Mums’.
All applicants had to have wanted to make life a little easier either for their family, themselves or for something they were involved in.
Elland supermum
Kathleen Harrison, mother to Samantha, Graham and Chantelle and long time secretary (almost 30 years) of Elland Silver Band based her application on her work to get new equipment for Elland Silver Band and Elland Silver Youth Bands.
A few days after the application which was made on line, Kathleen received a phone call to say she had been shortlisted out of hundreds who put their names forward.

Bursary award
The result of becoming a ‘Champion Mum’ comes in the form of a bursary to purchase new equipment.
Kathleen told 4BR: "It was a wonderful surprise. The bursary has purchased new music stands, new music, a vibraphone and several other items of percussion.
Help like is invaluable to the band and enables Elland to continue to provide high quality tuition and performances and to continue the charitable work within the local and wider community."
The story and photo of Kathleen and the band is featured in the 2nd February issue of Chat Magazine.
