Results: Borders Entertainment Contest

Tullis Russell Mills adds more silverware to its growing collection at the Borders Entertainment Contest.

Tullis Russell Mill

The in form Tullis Russell Mills directed by Martyn Ramsay, lifted the Scottish Borders Trophy for the second time at the Borders Entertainment Contest held in Langholm’s Buccleuch Centre at the weekend.

Keenly fought

The Fife based band took the £150 first prize in a keenly fought contest, from Coalburn Silver conducted by Gareth Bowman, with Croy Silver directed by Kenneth Blackwood in third.

Tullis also won the individual award as the highest placed Second Section Band as well as for ‘Best Percussion’.

Innovative adjudication

The music adjudicators were Stan Lippeatt and Archie Hutchison, and the innovative approach to the adjudication process of utilising a recorded voice over appraisal of the performances by one of the judges was deemed a great success.

Each band had to perform at least one work to honour the memory of the composer Goff Richards.

Sarah Berker gave the entertainment prize of £150 to Croy Silver Band, whilst the prize for the best Borders band went to St. Ronan’s Silver from Innerleithen. In the Development Section, St. Ronan’s Future Band came out on top.
