James Gourlay has been appointed General Director of River City Brass.
The tuba virtuoso has been serving as Music Director since September 2010, and will continue to provide the artistic direction and to serve as Music Director for the ensemble.
New role
In addition his new role will see him supply administrative leadership for management, fundraising, development and educational outreach with Assistant Director Carolyn Tuminella.
Right person
Board Chairman, Dave Wohleber told 4BR: "Dr Gourlay is the right person to lead the organization as the band sets off on its 30th anniversary season. He has already taken the band to new heights."

He added: "We have positioned ourselves to expand the number of people who attend the Western Pennsylvania Regional Concert Series through the addition of another ‘home hall’ at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in Midland, Pennsylvania.
We have also enhanced our fundraising efforts, producing more proposals to funding agencies, foundations, and corporations."
Staple diet
River City Brass has been a staple of Pittsburgh’s cultural community since 1981, performing an amazingly diverse repertoire from the classical to swing and jazz to the American songbook.
