Euphonium star David Childs will be displaying his heavy metal gifts over the next few weeks with a busy schedule of performances that will see him perform in solo and ensemble mode.
Eminence Brass
The superstar line up of Eminence Brass, which incorporates David, Richard Marshall, Owen Farr and Philip Cobb will be performing at the popular Durham Festival in the next few days, whilst David will follow this up with a brace of concerto performances and a that bit of solo Metal work.
Jenkins concerto
The day after Eminence's final concert in Durham he will be heading to Birmingham to play the popular Karl Jenkins' ‘Concerto’ with Birmingham Symphonic Winds, before turning back the clock a little closer to home with a performance of the ground breaking Joseph Horovitz ‘Concerto’ as part of the annual Welsh Proms season at St David’s Hall in Cardiff.
I’m really pleased to be able to perform the Horovitz as it is the composer’s 85th birthday this year and the concerto really was a ground breaking composition for the euphoniumDavid Childs
Metal
And to round off yet another busy period for the virtuosi performer, he will be giving the world premiere of a recital version of the Jenkins ‘Concerto’ in Southend on Sea as part of an international line up of artists under the Metal Productions banner, featured in a programme entitled ‘Out on their Own’.
Enjoying
David told 4BR that despite the travel and the hectic schedules, he is enjoying every minute of performing.
"I’m never with my instrument," he laughed. "It’s great to be able to showcase the euphonium in such a way though, especially with a little help form my friends at Eminence Brass."
"We are really looking forward to the concerts in Durham, which we hope will provide great entertainment. Then it’s down to Birmingham for the first Concerto performance and them back to Wales for the Welsh Proms.
He added: "I’m really pleased to be able to perform the Horovitz as it is the composer’s 85th birthday this year and the concerto really was a ground breaking composition for the euphonium."
Rest
With little take to take a rest, its then off to for that last bit of metal work. "It’s not often that I get to play in an intimate recital surrounding accompanied just by piano, so the opportunity to showcase the Jenkins ‘Concerto’ with accompanist John Wilson was too good to miss. Then I hope to get a break!"
