Following the report that 4BR had been informed that Butlins, who organise the Mineworkers National Championships, would not insist on participating bands being members of any national organised body, an official statement has now been released confirming their position over the proposals set out by the Brass Band Summit Working Party.
Full support
Butlins Festival Director Steve Walker stated: "Recent comments in the press attributed to Butlins have been unofficial. Butlins are in full support of any organisation, including the working party for the proposed UKBBA, whose aims and objectives are to stem the decline of the brass band movement in the UK."
We support any organisation trying to formulate plans that encourage the formation of new bands and rekindle old onesButlins Festival Director, Steve Walker
No plans to change
He added: "We support any organisation trying to formulate plans that encourage the formation of new bands and rekindle old ones.
The emphasis on attracting young people to take up a brass instrument can only be positive for all bands and contests.
However, there are no plans to change the format or conditions of entry to our already successful contest in the near future."
