The University Brass Band Championships of Great Britain has appointed a new Executive Committee.
Changes
UniBrass has appointed a new head, as well as four new members to its Executive Committee, which is responsible for running the University Brass Band Championships. This comes as members of organising committee of last year’s contest prepare to graduate.

Departures
Unibrass says goodbye to Max Stannard as Unibrass Chair, who will graduate this year and leave Lancaster to undertake a PGCE in Music Education.
Also graduating is Laura Hounsome from a Master in International Law and International Relations. Laura Emsley will also graduate from her degree in Criminology and Sociology.
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Everyone at Unibrass thanks them for all their commitment and efforts and wished them all the best for the future."
New faces
Four new members, three of who are first years who were immediately bitten by the UniBrass bug, will join the committee.
Rebecca Hardman will take the role of Secretary. Peter Williams, who had not played in a brass band until arriving at Lancaster, will become Treasurer, whilst Charlotte Critchley, who missed UniBrass 2011 having spent a year studying abroad, will take the role of Contest Secretary. Sammie Woodman will take charge of the social aspect to the contest.
Experience
Rhian Davies, who was instrumental in organising the first UniBrass contest, will replace Max Stannard as Chair. Chris Osborn will also remain on the committee dealing with the Student Union as Accommodation Officer. The role of Publicity Officer will be filled by the Lancaster University Band’s Principal Cornet, Jenni Hughes.
Looking forward
Rhian Davies told 4BR: “I’m looking forward to taking over the role at the end of the academic year. We have some great plans for next year and we’re confident to build on last year’s success. It’s going to be a lot of work but I’m sure it will be worth it.”
Sad to leave
Outgoing Chair Max Stannard told 4BR: "It’s a sad time to be leaving when UniBrass is just starting but we all have to move on. Rhian did a great job last year and I’m confident she’ll be able to make 2012 even better."
Next generation
UniBrass has informed 4BR that they are committed to keeping young people involved in brass banding. Through running the contest they hope to promote banding at universities and have recently launched a competition to find a new work for band by a young composer to be premiered at the 2012 contest.
