Baritone star Katrina Marzella has just returned from an enjoyable visit to Manger Folkehøgskule (Folk High School) in Norway.
Invite
Katrina was invited by school tutor and Manger Musikklag euphonium player, Helga Vetås, to visit the school as a guest lecturer and spent three enjoyable days in the Norwegian village delivering lessons and master classes to Manger’s euphonium, baritone and tenor horn students.
Recital
She also gave a short recital with pianist, Inger Leithaug, and performed with the Manger Folkehøgskule Brass Band, conducted by Tormod Flaten.
Katrina told 4BR: "It’s the first time I have visited Norway as a soloist, so I was really excited about this trip. Manger FHS is an important and influential institution for many Norwegian brass players. I was very impressed with the school, its concept and the standard of music making there."

Welcome
She added: "Everyone in Norway made me feel very welcome. It was lovely to meet Helga, her husband Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen and their family (both daughters play the baritone!).
I also enjoyed meeting the staff, including school principal, Geir Ryland, as well as all the fantastic students. It was also great to catch up with my friend, Tormod, who does excellent work with the brass band there."
Trip end
Katrina ended her trip in the nearby city of Bergen, where she met with Eikanger-Bjørsvik baritone player, Nina Mjanger Eide, as well as her old Leyland friend, Aidan Smith.
