4BR has been informed that the words, "I don’t want to hear the word flugel"” were recently heard coming from the miffed lips of young Adam Chappell as he walked into the Bradwell Silver bandroom recently.
Nipper
Band Secretary Robin Allen told 4BR that Adam, aged 10, was the 'Nipper the size of a flugel case', described by Chris Thomas in his retrospective from Fourth Section of the London & Southern Counties Area Contest.
Grade 4
And despite his size (he doesn’t fit into a flugel case but he has emerged from a BBb bass case for a bit of on stage fun) and his age, Adam has just passed his Grade 4 and his appearance at the Area contest was in fact was his second visit.

Mum too
Adam is a member of Bradwell’s Development Band where he plays alongside his older brother Lucas, and his mum Steph.
Robin said: "Steph used to use Adam’s cornet as exercise, as she suffers from arthritis, until it was pointed out that she might as well start playing rather than sit at the back listening, and now plays tenor horn in the main band."
Free
He added: "Bradwell now has four families with more than one player member and in common with most of the bands in the Milton Keynes area, Bradwell offers anyone the opportunity to learn a brass instrument free of charge — all done without sponsorship grant aid."
