Freckleton faces up to 2011

After a highly successful 2010, Freckleton is already looking forward to the 2011 season with new signings to boost the ranks.

The Freckleton Band has announced several new signings in preparation for the contest year ahead.

New faces

After a successful 2010, the band hopes to keep up the good work in 2011 with the help of some new faces.

Richard and Sian Carradus both return after spells away — Richard at Hepworth and Grimethorpe, Sian at bands including Sellers, Carlton, Rothwell and Yorkshire Imperial.

Richard’s move to principal cornet and Sian on solo cornet has necessitated a number of internal cornet section moves.

Welcome

The band also welcomes Max Stannard on 2nd trombone. Max is currently studying at Lancaster University and has played for Eagley, Flixton, Pilling and Blackpool Brass. John Bennett comes in on solo trombone for the Area contest. John is stepping in for John Stevens.

Bandsman of the Year

Meanwhile, the 'Bandsman of the Year' award for 2010 was presented to front row cornet player, Ian Walsh. Ian spent a lot of the year as the band’s only regular front row player, and enabled many rehearsals to go ahead, as well as deputising as Principal Cornet on several occasions.

Paul Dalton, the band's MD, recognised this dedication with the presentation of the award at the annual Lowther Pavillion Christmas Concert.
