The topics to be discussed at Steven Mead's forthcoming Criteria Based Adjudication seminar have been unveiled.

Steve Mead has unveiled the programme for his forthcoming seminar at the RNCM in Manchester on criteria based adjudication on 28th January.

1.30pm – 5.00pm: Studio Theatre

1.30pm – 1.40pm:
Introductions and the background to the debate.

The need for transparency: Is there anything wrong with the current system?

1.40pm – 2.15pm: Outline of the 2010 experiment

Feedback and analysis

1.55pm – 2.15pm: A look at the judging experiment criteria.

What is good and what needs changing?

2.15 – 2.40pm: Possible alternative criteria systems

Is this ‘tick box’ or analytical adjudication? Alternative marking systems?

2.40pm – 3.05pm: Open or closed adjudication?

The whole performance experience or just aural comparison? Is it just about trust?

3.20pm – 4.00pm: A live experiment.

Three brass band quartets performing.

4.00pm – 4.55pm: Open debate:

Should criteria based adjudication be given a chance in UK brass band competitions, and if so should it be open or closed adjudication.

March 12 • Back Row Cornet - due to a change in job, the band has a vacancy for a back row cornet. The band has a lovely atmosphere, and has regular jobs throughout the year as well as taking part in at least two contests.

March 12 • 2nd Trombone - due to work relocation of previous player. A fun loving band who have many regular jobs throughout the year as well as competing in at least two contests each year.


Mereside Brass

March 12 • MERESIDE BRASS have vacancies for PERCUSSION players. We are a friendly 4th Section band with a sensible calendar of jobs and socials. It would be great to hear from you if you would like to join the band or if you could help out when needed for concerts.
