Co-operative Funeralcare Band conducted by Michael Fowles has claimed the 2010 Scottish Open Championship title and £3,000 first prize in Perth on Saturday night.

Open system

Their victory on Simon Dobson's set work, '...a when the river told' came courtesy of two first placings from adjudicators Howard Snell and Hannes Buchegger and a second place from the composer himself, as part of the open adjudication system employed for the first time at the contest.

In second place came rivals Kirkintilloch directed by Allan Ramsay, who were awarded two second places from Buchegger and Snell and 4th from the composer.

The final podium finish went to Pemberton Old Wigan DW under Mark Bentham, who certainly impressed the composer who awarded them first place, whilst the other judges allocated them 4th and 6th.

Good from

Kingdom Brass continued their good 2010 form by coming 4th, with their trombone player Helen Douthwaite taking the 4BR 'Best Instrumentalist' prize, whilst Wire Brass will perhaps wonder what they did to fall foul of Hannes Buchegger.

The respected Austrian conductor found their interpretation under Paul Andrews only to be his 11th best choice of the day, whilst his collegues placed them 3rd each.

Result:
Placings: Hannes Buchegger/Howard Snell/Simon Dobson.

Awards are given on placing from each adjudicator, then an average of all three placings.

In event of a tie the placing of Simon Dobson takes precedent, but if there is a further tie the award of Hannes Buchegger is taken into consideration.
