New Ellerby work at Swiss National

Swiss to hear new Martin Ellerby work 'Genesis' at their National Championships...

Ellerby

With the best British bands having to tackle 'Terra Australis' by Martin Ellerby at the Royal Albert Hall in a fortnight’s time, there is intriguing news that a brand new work by the composer will get a world premiere performance at the Swiss National Championships in Montreux in November.

Own choice selections

With the own choice selections to be played by the competing bands in Montreux released by the Swiss Brass Band Association, it was revealed that one band will play Ellerby’s, 'Genesis', whilst another contender will also premiere a brand new work by a British composer Peter Meechan, with his 'The Legend of King Arthur'.

British flavour

There is in fact a very British musical flavour to the contest this year with the set work for the contest, the intriguingly titled, 'Waiting for a Pain Hit!??!!?' by Paul McGhee, whilst in nine of the ten own choice selections to be played come from UK based composers.

Penlee

In addition, bands in the Second Division will play 'Penlee' by Simon Dobson, whilst 'A Cambrian Suite' by Michael Ball is the Third Division set work. The Fourth Division test piece is 'Flight' by Swiss composer Mario Burki, whilst the First Division work is 'Macabre' by Thomas Trachsel.
