Hard yakka for Elland

Elland Silver Youth Band is celebrating yet more success after thier recent victory at the famous Hardraw Scar contest.

 

Elland Silver Youth Band are once again celebrating after another success at the famous Hardraw Scar Contest.

The band were crowned winners of the Fourth & Ungraded Section for the second year running, as well as being awarded the prize for 'Best March', whilst 16 year old trombonist Daniel Eddison impressed with his rendition of 'DL Blues' to scoop the 'Best Soloist' prize.

Great year

The band presented a varied programme of music featuring several of their younger players, to round off 2010 as a year to remember, having won 5 contests, plus numerous other sections and best soloist awards, to take their haul to 11 trophies since the start of the year.

Student goodbyes

The contest also marked the last official engagement for long serving members Philip Varley (principal cornet) and Owen Hicks (flugal Horn). Both lads have members of the band for the last 10 years and have been instrumental in the band's success. Owen departs to Cambridge University to study Medicine and Phil is to study Engineering at Huddersfield University.
