The 5 free bottles of Al Cass valve oil that were the prize on offer for the last 4BR Quiz have found a good home – with the young players of the Lanner Brass Academy.

Band Chairman Lee Rouse sent in the correct answer (which was of course Holton Electric Valve Oil was first established in 1898), and his was the name that was pulled out of the electronic hat.
Flourish
The Lanner and District Silver Band had been struggling over the last few years, but the return of Stuart Chappell as MD in 2009 has seen the band flourish, with the organisation setting the Lanner Brass Academy.
The band had been without a youth section for many years but the 2010 launch where children and young people, irrespective of ability or background, can learn to play a brass instrument and improve their musical skills, has been a huge success.
Youth Club
The Academy is something of a ‘musical youth club’ with an emphasis on fun as well as learning to play and under the direction of euphonium player Phil Matthews, it now boasts 25 young people (average age of 10 years) and has successfully undertaken two public performances.

Delighted
Band Chairman, Academy Manager and now 4BR Quiz winner, Lee Rouse told 4BR: "I was absolutely delighted to hear that we had won the quiz and the valve oil, and the timing couldn’t have been better.
"We were fortunate to receive a donation from a local business which enabled us to acquire four new instruments and I had a shopping trip planned this weekend to purchase some valve oil to go with them — but thanks to 4barsrest I don’t need to now!"
