Following a couple of successful concerts in Sicily, David Childs has jetted off again — this time to the USA for the fourth time this year.
Star attraction
Having already performed in Arizona and New York twice in 2010, David crossed the Atlantic once again, this time as the star attraction of the International Euphonium Institute.
This week long event hosted by Yamaha Artist Adam Frey, attracted euphonium players of all abilities from around the globe.
Participants from Tawaiwan, Singapore, Canada and the US had the opportunity to study with US based euphonium professors, including Willson artist Jamie Lipton, Sterling endorsee Martin Cochran and Artistic Director Adam Frey.
One of the highlights this year was the amazing 'Artist Recital' by David Childs. As always, his performance was amazing. A focus of course was his stunning playing of Karl Jenkins' 'Euphonium Concerto'Adam Frey
Tuition and performance
In addition to receiving expert tuition the students also enjoyed performing in chamber groups, and taking part in their own participant recitals.
Masterclass
However for many the highlight came towards the end of the week when David arrived as guest artist to give two masterclasses, an evening recital with piano, and a guest solo appearance with the Georgia State Brass Band.
In a programme which included Hummel, Jenkins, Einaudi and Paganini he did not disappoint, as Adam Frey told 4BR: "One of the highlights this year was the amazing 'Artist Recital' by David Childs. As always, his performance was amazing. A focus of course was his stunning playing of Karl Jenkins’ 'Euphonium Concerto'. David also regaled the audiences in his excellent masterclasses."
Perfect opportunity
With such a wide range of ages and abilities, the International Euphonium Institute is not only a learning environment. For many it represents the perfect opportunity to meet and work with some of the world's leading euphonium talents.
David returns to the USA again later this year for performances in Virginia and Canada.
